Pompey boss quits
Friday, 21/05/2010
Portsmouth manager Avram Grant has quit - fuelling speculation that he will become West Ham boss.
And Pompey keeper David James - who has made no secret of the fact that he wants to become a boss - has thrown his hat into the ring for the Fratton Park job.
Grant, who has reportedly put some of his own cash into the club during their financial difficulties and not always been paid, announced his decision in an open letter to fans. The former Chelsea chief said it was one of the hardest decision he has ever had to make.
James, 40 in August, who is currently with the England squad, was told on the eve of the FA Cup Final last week that he was being allowed to leave Pompey because of their cash problems.
Administrator Andrew Andronikou admitted: "David has expressed an interest in taking the next stage of his career into management. We believe it has come a bit too early to appoint him as manager."
