Pompey boss sacked

Paul Hart has become the first Premier League manager of the season to lose his job.

The former Nottingham Forest and Barnsley boss has been axed with Pompey rooted to the foot of the table.

Ironically, he has gone after signs that the troubled club were about to turn around their season. Many fans had been behind the manager who has operated with a transfer ban, takeover problems and a very small squad that has been hit by injury.

Director of Football Avram Grant, the former Chelsea manager, is expected to take over providing he is granted a work permit.
