Premier League games moved

Thursday, 02/02/2012

Premier League clubs have agreed to move fixtures from Saturday to Sunday on the penultimate weekend of the season.

Games due to be played on May 5 will now take place on May 6 to avoid a clash with the FA Cup Final.

Top-flight games the following weekend, the last of the season, were already set to be played on Sunday, May 13.

Kick-off times for the penultimate games last year were changed so they did not clash with the final, which has always traditionally been held after the end of the league season.

In 2011 Man City won the FA Cup at the same time as Man United won the Premier League and three other games were played.

FA chiefs and Premier League bosses have been in talks about the move for a number of weeks.

A Premier League spokesman said: "We realise that it is not good for either competition to have our matches conflicting with the FA Cup."

If an English club is involved in the Europa League final the following Wednesday they will be allowed to play on the Saturday.

Sky Sports can also choose to show a match in the Saturday lunchtime slot, because of their TV deal.

The 2012-13 season will kick off on August 18, six days after London Olympics end.
