Rangers ace recalled

Veteran David Weir has been recalled by Scotland at the age of 40.

The reliable Rangers defender and skipper is in Craig Levein's squad for next month's Euro 2012 qualfiers against Lithuania and Liechtenstein.

The former Everton man was not called up for the last two international squads and it was thought his international career was over.

But boss Levein said: "He is still playing at the highest level week-in, week-out. He is still turning in top-class performances so it was a pretty easy decision to make for me.

"I told him I was not just bringing him along for the ride. My job is to pick the best players for each position."

Blackpool keeper Matt Gilks, 28, gets a first call-up, qualifying through Scottish grandparents.
