Raul of the Rovers!

An amazing move by Blackburn to try and capture legendary Spain forward Raul has been snubbed.

Rovers wanted the 34-yearold striker at Ewood Park as their major capture of the transfer window.

But Horst Heldt, boss of his German club Schalke, said: "Raul told us that he wants to stay with Schalke and asked us to turn Blackburn Rovers down. We have already done that."

The former Real Madrid star, the top goalscorer ever in the Champions League, agreed a two-year deal with Schalke last summer and last season hit 14 goals in 34 Bundesliga games.

Blackburn have also been linked with moves for former England captain David Beckham and Brazil ace Ronaldinho.
