Wayne Rooney's latest scan has revealed he has minor ligament damage.

Man United's medical team are currently assessing just how bad the injury is and how many games the striker will miss.

At first it was feared that the England hitman would be out for a long period and could even miss the World Cup finals after damaging his ankle in the Champions League game against Bayern Munich.

But now there are hopes that he will only miss between four and seven games for the Premier League champions, giving him plenty of time to be back for South Africa 2010.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will give the media an update on the injury on Friday morning.
