Russians in Pompey talks

Russians in Pompey talks

Tuesday, 08/02/2011

A Russian consortium has admitted it is involved in talks to takeover Portsmouth.

It is the same CSI group who tried to buy Bournemouth last summer and which already has interests in Ferrari Russia and Spartak Moscow ice hockey side.

Pompey have been plagued with cash problems for more than three years - something which resulted in them losing their Premier League status.

The Championship side's supporters have been unhappy about chairman Balram Chainrai since he took over a chairman two years ago.

The club have faced a number of court apperances and have also failed to pay players' wages on a number of occasions.

With debts of more than £60m they became the first Premier League side to go into administration and were docked nine points, which contributed to their relegation last season.
