Scholes returns
Sunday, 08/01/2012
Paul Scholes has come out of retirement and will play for Manchester United for the rest of the season.
The 37-year-old, who hung up his boots at the end of the last campaign, was on the bench for United for today's FA Cup clash with rivals Man City.
"I'm delighted the manager feels I can still make a contribution to the team," said Scholes, who has played for the Red Devils for his entire career.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been trying to persuade his influential star to return to action for the past few weeks as the club faced an injury and illness crisis.
Scholes, who has won ten Premier League medals and two European Cups with United, has been coaching at the club this term.
He confessed: "I've been pretty clear since I stopped playing that I miss it. I'm looking forward to playing my part in trying to bring more success to this great club."
Scholes has been training regularly and boss Fergie admitted: "It's terrific to have him back. Everyone knows he is one of the greatest players in Manchester United's history. He has not lost his real fitness."
Before today's return Scholes had scored 150 goals in 676 appearances for the club.
