Silva’s gold!
Tuesday, 07/02/2012
David Silva is favourite to win the PFA Player of the Year award.
The Manchester City and Spain midfielder is a popular choice among his fellow professionals to lift the prestigious trophy.
Many top-flight players are understood to have voted for Silva and Arsenal striker Robin van Persie.
Silky skilled Silva has been a revelation and driving force for Manchester City since joining them from Valenica in summer 2010.
His team-mates had lauded the 26-year-old as one of the best signings made by boss Roberto Mancini, despite the galaxy of stars at the Etihad Stadium.
Four times City's Player of the Month since his arrival, Silva also has one Barclays Premier League award to his credit too.
Dutchman Robin van Persie scored 35 goals in the last calendar year – just one goal short of the previous record set by Alan Shearer.
The Arsenal striker has hit 22 goals in just 23 Premier League games this season, helping the Gunners recover from one of the worst-ever starts to a campaign.
The PFA will shortly release a shortlist of who is in the running to get the award, handed last year to Tottenham and Wales star Gareth Bale.
