Sir Alex to speak

Sir Alex to speak

Thursday, 25/08/2011

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has agreed to give post match interviews for the BBC again after lifting his ban on talking to the broadcasting giants.

Ferguson first boycotted the BBC in 2004 after several allegations about his son, Jason, appeared in a television documentary.

Since then he has famously avoided post match interviews on Match of the Day and with Five Live, with assistant managers like Mike Phelan and Carlos Queiroz being sent out to speak to journalists.

A joint statement has been released today after Sir Alex met with the BBC's director general, Mark Thompson, and BBC North director Peter Salmon.

The statement said: "Sir Alex and the BBC have put behind them the difficulties which led to Sir Alex feeling unable to appear on BBC programmes.

"Sir Alex will now make himself available to the BBC for Match of the Day, Radio 5 live and other outlets as agreed.”

I think it’s great Sir Alex will speak to the BBC after matches. He is the best manager Manchester United have ever had and would give well informed comments to journalists. Sir Alex has also made probably the buy of the season in Ashley Young.

ED: It was wrong of Fergie to blank the Beeb in the first case. And you could be totally right in your verdict on Young as he has slotted into the side like a veteran!
