Sunderland star’s new deal

Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley has landed a new three and a half year deal.

The former Manchester United starlet fought his way back into the side at the beginning of the season and earned rave reviews from boss Steve Bruce.

Bardsley also made his first international appearance for Scotland recently - and his club boss feared losing the player.

But now Bardsley, 25, a £2m buy from Old Trafford almost two years ago, has committed himself to the Stadium of Light until 2014.
