Terry faces investigation

Wednesday, 26/10/2011

John Terry could lose his England captaincy after allegedly making racists remarks against Anton Ferdinand.

The incident is said to have happened at the game between Chelsea and QPR at the weekend and was reported to the police by a fan.

Police and FA officials have now launched an investigation in to claims that Blues skipper Terry made the racial remarks to QPR defender Ferdinand, brother of former England captain Rio.

Terry, 30, said in a statement: "I welcome the FA inquiry and look forward to clearing my name as soon as possible. Until then I have no further comment"

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has backed his captain to be cleared. But his club have been charged by the FA for failing to control their players in a match where two Chelsea stars were dismissed and the referee had to hand out a host of yellow cards.

Terry was only reinstated as England captain just over six months ago. If the complaint against him now is upheld he would certainly lose the armband and could even be banned from international football.
