Terry faces trial

Wednesday, 01/02/2012

England captain John Terry will appear in court after the finals of Euro 2012 to face a trial for alleged racist abuse.

The Chelsea skipper had a not guilty plea entered on his behalf at Westminster Magistrates today.

Terry is alleged to have made racist comments towards QPR defender Anton Ferdinand on October 23 last year.

He now faces a trial on July 9, just days after the Euro 2012 final.

The Crown Prosecution Service told magistrates that Terry, 31, is accused of a racially-aggravated public order offence.

After the hearing the defender's legal representatives issued a statement which said: "Mr Terry looks forward to the opportunity to clear his name.

"Mr Terry denies making any racist statement and will establish in court that he is not guilty of any such offence."
