Transfer probe
Wednesday, 10/03/2010
Chelsea are at the centre of a transfer investigation that could lead to action against the club.
The FA are checking out allegations that unlicensed agent Mitchell Thomas was involved in Shaun Wright-Phillips’ £21m move from Man City to Stamford Bridge in 2005.
If they prove Thomas was given money as part of the move they could decide to take action against the England player and may even deduct points from the Blues.
A solicitor has been fined by the Law Society for his part in the transfer. Chelsea and Wright-Phillips have denied Thomas was involved in the transfer.
Last year Chelsea were the subject of a FIFA transfer embargo until after they were found guilty of inducing Gael Kakuta to move from Lens in 2007.
The ban was lifted following intervention by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. It is believed Chelsea agreed to a substantial compensation fee for the player.
