Tuesday, 26/01/2010
Fulham central-defender Chris Smalling looks set to continue his meteoric rise to the top with a move to Manchester United.
Just over a year ago the 20-year-old was playing non-league football and looking to go to University.
Then a host of clubs approached the youngster but it was Fulham who won the race for his signature. It is understood that the Londoners have accepted a £7m bid from United.
Since signing for Fulham Smalling has made his Premier League debut, appeared in Europe for the Cottagers and got an England Under-21 call-up.
Shoot revealed his potential early last year, before he appeared in the top-flight. Since then he has been referred to as “the new Rio Ferdinand”.
Late last week Arsenal were linked with a move for the South London-born defender.
