United’s Wembley glee
Sunday, 08/08/2010
Manchester United's season opener against Double winners Chelsea saw the Red Devils set out their stall for the new campaign with a 3-1 victory.
In front of 84,600 at Wembley they took the lead after 41 minutes when Rooney set up Antonio Valencia. United made it 2-0 after 76 minutes with a strange strike by Javier Hernandez on his competitive debut for theedw club. The Mexican kicked the ball into his own face and then saw it roll over the line.
Seven minutes later Salomon Kalou pulled one back when he pounced on a shot from Daniel Sturridge that was only parried by United keeper Edwin van der Sar.
Substitute Dimitar Berbatov made it 3-1 right on time when he lobbed the ball over Chelsea keeper Hilario to give the best team victory in an entertaining game.
