Villa close on Keane

Robbie Keane is on the verge of joining Aston Villa on loan.

A deal to get the LA Galaxy striker to Villa Park should be completed over the weekend.

Republic of Ireland hitman Keane wants to maintain his fitness and form during the MLS close season as his international side get ready for the finals of Euro 2012.

And his arrival would mean that Villa boss Alex McLeish has finally got his man, having tried to sign Keane from Spurs before his move to America last summer.

McLeish said: The club have sanctioned the deal. I missed out on Robbie last year although it was probably fortunate because he got injured just after that."

It is unlikely that Villa will make any further window signings, unless they lose any players to other clubs, freeing up some of their wage bill.

McLeish has rubbished reports linking striker Darren Bent with a move to Liverpool.
