Wigan go for Maynard

Wigan are set for talks with Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard.

Athletic have been given the go ahead to speak to the 25-year-old former Crewe man who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Maynard has been reluctant to agree a new contract at Ashton Gate and City want to cash in before they lose him on a free.

Leicester and West Ham have both shown interest in the player, valued at £4m, who is keen to move to the Premier League.

Wigan also hope to sign Birmingham City's Chile winger Jean Beausejour, 27, who signed for the Blues from Club America in August 2010.
