Billy Sharp (Doncaster). The club's £1.15m record buy didn't score on his full debut after last season's successful role but he did enough to show that he is so vital to Doncaster as Rovers won 2-0 at Preston.

LEAGUE ONE

Matt Sparrow (Brighton). A free signing from Scunthorpe, the midfielder scored two goals on his debut as his new side won 2-1 at Swindon.

LEAGUE TWO

Justin Richards (Port Vale). Vale lived up to their billing as promotion contenders thanks to a 1-0 at Bury and striker Justin Richards marked his debut with an all-action performance.
