Premier League

Danny Welbeck (Sunderland): Capped an impressive performance by scoring the winner in his side's incredible 3-0 defeat of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Welbeck was a constant thorn in the Blues' defence, capitalising on a weak Ashley Cole back-pass to notch the goal he deserved.

Championship

Darren Ambrose (Crystal Palace): As he was so many times last season, Ambrose was again the Eagles' saviour – notching a brace to lift them off the bottom of the Championship. Having spurned a summer move to QPR, the midfielder will be hot property once again in January.

Leagues 1 & 2

League One:

Lee Martin (Charlton): The second Manchester United academy graduate of this week's star men – Martin notched a double as the Addicks ran riot away at Peterborough. Despite Posh's reputation as an attacking outfit, it was the visitors who were most clinical, inflicting a heavy defeat on their promotion rivals.

League Two:

Adam Le Fondre (Rotherham): League Two's top scorer continued his prolific form by snaring two goals to help the Millers to a 2-1 defeat of Oxford. It was Rotherham's first win in six games and kept them in the play-off places. Though how long they can retain their star man is another matter.
