YAKUBU, Blackburn Rovers

Rover’s boss Steve Kean has been under pressure from fans since the day he controversially replaced Sam Allardyce a year ago and Tuesday's League Cup defeat to Cardiff did nothing to lift that.

Saturday saw a must-win game at home to Swansea and Kean’s men duly delivered with a 4-2 victory.

Yakubu was the Ewood Park hero, scoring all four goals in a striking master-class.

The first a composed finish from open play and one from the penalty spot came either side of two well-placed headers to take the Nigerian into double-figures for the season.

The three points take Rovers off the bottom after Wigan and Bolton both lost.

ROBERT SNODGRASS, Leeds United

A fierce rivalry and football was rightfully put to one side at Elland Road as fans paid tribute to Gary Speed who tragically died last week.

Former team-mates, friends, family and a strong following were all present to show their respect and love in what was a fitting tribute.

However there was a game to be played after and Leeds did their championship winning midfielder proud with a 2-0 victory over Millwall.

It was current midfield dynamo Robert Snodgrass that handed the Whites a destined victory, with two fantastic finishes.

The first, a 25-yard free-kick was unstoppable, followed by a header that secured all three points and a place in the play-off places.

FA CUP

JAMIE TOLLEY, Wrexham

The biggest shock of the FA Cup first round took place at Griffin Park as Blue Square Premier side Wrexham defeated League One Brentford.

The 1-0 scoreline wasn't too much of a surprise for the travelling fans whose team are flying at the top of their division, with just one defeat away from home all season.

Jamie Tolley was the Red Dragons' hero with his goal proving to be the difference on 33 minutes.

The former Shrewsbury man struck a terrific right foot volley from the edge of the box to send the travelling fans into ecstasy.
