Premier League
Shay Given (Manchester City). Shrugged off his World Cup disappointment with the Republic of Ireland to put on a display everyone has come to expect of him, including saving a Frank Lampard penalty in the 2-1 victory over Chelsea.
Championship
In a very tough week to call it, three players had to settle for the award:
Steven Taylor (Newcastle). Had a good first half and cleared a shot off the line but with Newcastle down to ten men in the second period the centre half really rose to the demands on him and ensured Newcastle's 2-0 victory over Watford.
Dean Gerken (Bristol City). Brave, determined keeping after he'd had a bit of an ear-bashing off his boss the previous week made sure City earned a 0-0 against Ipswich.
Rob Earnshaw (Nottingham Forest). He's had injury problems and he's not always started but a hat-trick in the 5-1 slaughter of fellow promotion contenders Leicester City says it all!
Leagues 1 & 2
LEAGUE ONE
David Connolly (Southampton). The born-again strikernotched another goal in an all-action display as the Saints went marching on with a 3-1 victory at Wallsall.
LEAGUE TWO
Michael Coulson (Grimsby). Another player who has not had the best of time with injuries showed he's still got it with a good performance and a goal in the 1-1 home draw with Dagenham.
