Premier League

by Daniel Tyler

MICHEL VORM, Swansea City

Swansea entered the weekend without a win in four but with a terrific home record that has seen only Manchester United take all three points away from the Liberty Stadium this season.

So Saturday’s clash with bad travellers Fulham was a great chance for the Welsh outfit to get back to winning ways.

And Brendan Rogers’s side didn’t waste the opportunity with a brilliant 2-0 victory.

The man of the moment (and maybe of the season) for the Swans was goalkeeper Michel Vorm.

The shot-stopper made a string of top saves before saving Clint Dempsey’s second half penalty to secure the victory.

The Dutchman, who is proving a bargain buy for £1.5m, has the most clean sheets in the Premier League this season, with seven.

Championship

KEITH ANDREWS, Ipswich Town

Ipswich were under pressure heading into their match at in-form Barnsley.

Paul Jewell’s side were on a run of eight successive league defeats, which had left them on the fringes of the drop zone.

However despite trailing 2-0 at half-time, the Tractor Boys rallied to secure a 5-3 victory.

The game changed with a quickfire brace from Keith Andrews, just a minute into the second half.

The midfielder finished well on both occasions to give his side a sniff of an unlikely win.

The Republic of Ireland international seems to have found his feet in the Championship after an unsuccessful spell with Blackburn.

The Portman Road outfit now move above Bristol City, three points above Nottingham Forest in the relegation places.

Leagues 1 & 2

League One

STUART BEAVON, Wycombe Wanderers

Wycombe took on Chesterfield in a clash of the division's two bottom sides, but the match didn’t disappoint.

The Chairboys edged to a thrilling 3-2 victory thanks to an injury-time winner from striker Stuart Beavon.

The 27-year-old’s dramatic late header, swung a game destined for a draw and secured his side's first win in eight games.

The former Weymouth man created many chances with his craft around the box in a brilliant all round performance

The victory moves Gary Waddock’s side to within two points of safety.

League Two

RUSSELL PENN, Cheltenham

Cheltenham have started the season strong and ended table toppers Southend’s run of five successive away victories on Saturday with an impressive 3-0 win.

The result came as no surprise to Robins' fans who see their side sit third after five wins in a row.

It was a fantastic team performance from Mark Yates side but Russell Penn played a key role.

The midfielder showed great skill to create the first and secured his sides victory with a cool finish for the second.

The 26-year-old was influential in helping his side claim the three points, which moves the Reds to within a point of the visitors.
