Tottenham are looking to clinch their first piece of silverware in eight years this season, and go to Liverpool on Tuesday in a bid to progress in the League Cup.

Spurs’ last trophy came in the same competition back in 2008, when they beat London rivals Chelsea 2-1 in the final at Wembley thanks to goals from Dimitar Berbatov and Jonathan Woodgate.

However, that was at a time when Spurs weren’t challenging for the Premier League title, and the expectations were somewhat lower than what they are now under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

His Spurs side finished third in the top-flight last year, just being pipped to second by North London rivals Arsenal, and in turn qualified for the Champions League for the first time since 2010.

They’ve started this season strongly as well, picking up five wins from the first nine league games, and drawing the other four.

Pochettino’s side find themselves a point adrift of Tuesday’s opponents Liverpool in the league table, and will likely make changes to their team as they bid for a place in the last eight.
