Manchester United have been linked with a whopping world record transfer involving Spain international David De Gea, according to The Sun.

The Premier League side, who currently sit fifth in the English top-flight table, four points adrift of rivals Manchester City in the race for a top four finish, are set to receive renewed interest from Real Madrid this summer for their star goalkeeper.

The 26-year-old, who has 20 international caps for his country, has kept 14 clean sheets in 40 appearances in all competitions for The Red Devils so far this season.

De Gea, who arrived at Old Trafford back in June 2011 following his move from Spanish rivals Atletico, has won a Premier League title, the FA Cup, the League Cup and three FA Community Shields at The Theatre of Dreams.

However, the report suggests Madrid are willing to submit a world record £60m bid to land the shot stopper ahead of the 2017-18 campaign, smashing the previous record of £32.7m for Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon back in 2001.
