Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil held talks with Turkish side Fenerbache over the summer concerning a potential switch, according to reports from Turkish publication, Hurriyet.

The reports claim that the Germany international flew to meet the club in secret and was in the city for just 17 hours to hold the talks.

A deal never materialised, however, the reports will make the North London club ever-more desperate to tie their star down to a new deal in an attempt to deter any other potential suitors.

The former Real Madrid man has been in spectacular form for the Gunners, having scored xx goals in xx appearances so far this season.

The Emirates hierarchy are also reportedly looking to tie Ozil’s attacking partner Alexis Sanchez down to a new long-term deal, however, the pair want clarity on the situation surrounding the future of manager Arsene Wenger before commuting to a new contract.

The attacking duo will be back in action on Saturday when the Gunners take on David Moyes’ struggling Sunderland side.
