Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs is set to end his 29-year spell at the club after agreeing a settlement for his departure.

The 42-year-old had a year remaining on his contract as the assistant manager with the Red Devils, but new boss Jose Mourinho is keen to bring his own number two, Rui Faria, to Old Trafford instead to fill that role.

Unable to find another position with the 13-times Premier League champions, the Welshman has decided to move onto pastures new, after nearly three decades at the club.

Giggs, who had been working with Louis van Gaal since 2014 until the Dutchman’s sacking just hours after the FA Cup final success against Crystal Palace back in May, made a club-record 963 appearances for United in his playing career.

During that period, he won a record 13 league titles, two European Cups, four FA Cups and four League Cups to become the most decorated British player of all time.
