Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho would prefer a January move to Premier League rivals Southampton, according to a report from The Times.
The 26-year-old, who has been exiled from the first team since falling out with manager Jurgen Klopp over the summer, is also reportedly a target for Swansea, Galatasaray and Sevilla.
However, as per the Times’ story, the France international would prefer to link up with his compatriot, Claude Puel, on the south coast over any other move.
The Saints are now in the market for another centre half after club captain Jose Fonte handed in a transfer request last week.
Furthermore, with Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk also being linked with a move away from St. Mary’s, Puel will need to plan for the future.
With Klopp supposedly happy to let Sakho go, the deal could present the best chance for the Saints to land an experienced Premier League defender in a notoriously difficult January window.
