According to reports from the Daily Star, Southampton boss Claude Puel is ‘desperate’ to land Lyon forward Rachid Ghezzal in order to bolster his attacking armoury before the window closes.

Saints will need to add striking options before next Wednesday’s deadline, having lost Saido Mane and Graziano Pelle already this window, and a loan move for forward Jay Rodriguez reportedly on the cards.

The South Coast side are going into a Europa League group stage for the first time in their history with and alarmingly thin squad, and are yet to get a win under their belt in the Premier League this season, with new signing Nathan Redmond being deployed as a striker.

The Algerian forward has already rejected a move to Premier League rivals, Everton, this summer stating that he wants a move to a club with European football.

The 24-year-old, who scored ten goals in all competitions for the Ligue 1 side last season, is reportedly available for a fee in the region of £9m.
