Southampton are reportedly expected to seal the re-signing of England international defender Calum Chambers.

The Saints; who lost 1-0 to Tottenham at St Mary’s Stadium last weekend, are struggling in 12th place in the league table this term, conceding 21 goals from their opening 17 fixtures.

In order to strengthen his defensive ranks, boss Ronald Koeman is set to complete the signing of the club’s former centre-half Chambers on a six-month loan deal during the upcoming January transfer window.

The 20-year-old, who left the south coast for the Gunners back in 2014 for a reported fee of £16m, has made just six Premier League appearances for Arsene Wenger’s side so far this term.

It is also understood that Southampton will want Chambers, who has three senior international caps for the Three Lions, to remain on loan during the 2016-17 season as well if his initial stint is successful.
