Sunderland target 6ft 5in German defender

Sunderland are reportedly ready to reignite their interest in Germany defender Jan Kirchhoff.

The Premier League side, who lie seven points adrift of safety in 19th place in the standings, want the Bayern Munich centre-half to help the club steer themselves away from relegation before the end of the campaign.

The 25-year-old, who is a former Germany Under-21 international, has made just two first-team appearances for the Bundesliga champions so far this season.

Black Cats boss Sam Allardyce is keen to bolster his defensive options in the January market, although it is understood that he wants to see the towering 6ft 5in defender in action before committing any money towards his potential transfer.
