A lot has been made about the money spent by the transfer committee during the Northern Irishman’s tenure at Anfield, with the £16 million signing of Mario Balotelli and £20 million capture of Dejan Lovren just two that haven’t worked out. However, not all of ‘Rodgers’ buys’ were flops.

In the summer, reports were linking him with a £25 million move to Manchester United, so for Liverpool to land him for £10 million was a great bit of business for a club which has lacked balance at the back in recent times. He’s made a solid start to life at Anfield and, at just 24 years of age, he can only get better.
