Tottenham have reportedly turned their attentions to FC Basel striker Breel Embolo, after they were unable to provide assurances over a starting place for another target, Marseille’s Michy Batshuayi, according to the Telegraph.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is looking for a forward to support last season’s top goalscorer in the Premier League, Harry Kane, following the club’s qualification for next year’s Champions League, and had carried out a number of checks on Batshuayi.

However, the north London outfit are unable to offer the Belgium international guaranteed first team football such as other interested clubs, like Premier League rivals West Ham United, meaning that the 19-year-old Embolo is now a top target.

Pochettino believes he can convince the Switzerland international, who has scored 30 goals in 86 appearances for his current club, to move to White Hart Lane, although Basel rejected a £19million bid from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in the January transfer window.
