Erik Lamela celebrates scoring his side’s fourth goal against Manchester City in Tottenham’s 4-1 rout back in September.

With Tottenham chasing a top four finish and UEFA Champions League football next term; although they are only five points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal and Leicester City, Spurs’ improvement this season mirrors the performances of forward Erik Lamela this term.

The 23-year-old, who remains the club’s record buy (£30m) after arriving from AS Roma back in August 2013, is finally starting to pay off his hefty transfer fee following two unconvincing seasons at White Hart Lane.

The Argentina international; who has 15 caps for his country, was tipped to hit the ground running at Tottenham when he first arrived in English football having scored an impressive 15 league goals for Serie A outfit Roma during the previous campaign. But unfortunately Lamela failed to find the back of the net in the Premier League at all during his debut campaign and only scored twice last year.

This season however; he has hit a Tottenham career high of three league goals in 20 appearances, still not prolific, we know. But Lamela has also provided three Premier League assists to help Mauricio Pochettino’s side pursue a lucrative top four finish, whilst he also boasts a great goalscoring rate in the UEFA Europa League this season, bagging five goals in five outings.

The Argentine is certainly starting to repay boss Pochettino and the White Hart Lane faithful’s patience this season, whether that’ll be popping up with the odd goal or squaring the ball for fan favourite Harry Kane to fire home.
