Aston Villa have reportedly had a bid rejected for former Arsenal striker Gervinho.

It is understood that the Villans offered the Ivory Coast international a return to the Premier League this summer, although their opening offer for the forward didn’t match Roma’s valuation.

The 28-year-old, who has 71 international caps to his name, scored seven goals in 34 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit last season.

Manager Tim Sherwood, who is also negotiating a deal for fellow Roma forward Adem Ljajic, wants to bring Gervinho to Villa Park before the close of the transfer window on September 1.

But Villa failed to meet the Italian club’s demands with their opening bid, with Gervinho reportedly valued around £10m.
