West Ham are closing in on a deal to sign World Cup winning right-back, Alvaro Arbeloa – who is a free agent – on a season-long contract, according to the Evening Standard.

The former Real Madrid man is without a club since leaving The Galacticos at the end of last season, and is in the country, according to Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre (15.20), in order to hold talks with the Hammers.

The ex-Liverpool man has had an illustrious career to date, adding to that 2010 World Cup win the 33-year-old can boast two European Championships, two Champions League winner’s medals, two Copa del Rey trophies and one La Liga title, won with Spain and Real Madrid.

Slaven Bilic has been in the market for a full-back all summer with winger Michail Antonio covering the position in the season opener, giving away a penalty in their defeat to Chelsea.

Jack Sullivan, the son of Irons co-chairman, David Sullivan, has teased East London fans through his Twitter feed, first by announcing the possibility of a Deadline Day signing, followed by a second tweet of a plane landing.
