Shay Given was City’s number one in his first full season at the Etihad Stadium, and was in goal when they inflicted Chelsea’s one and only home league defeat of the season.

However, the former Republic of Ireland international lost his place to Joe Hart in the opening match of 2009/10 season at Tottenham, and has never really recovered from that to produce his best form.

Given moved to Aston Villa in 2011, had a spell on loan at Middlesbrough in 2014, and is now on the books at Stoke, where he started the season between the sticks due to the injury to Jack Butland.
