Former Barcelona hero Xavi has claimed that his old manager, Pep Guardiola, could move for on-loan Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, with the Man City boss being a fan of the player.

The Spanish midfielder, who is now plying his trade in Qatar, made over 200 appearances under Guardiola for Barca, and was a key player in one of the most successful club football sides the world has ever seen.

Speaking to Fox Latin America, the 37-year-old said: “I know Pep has always had a lot of respect for Wilshere – he impressed so many of the Barcelona team when we played  Arsenal in 2011.”

Wilshere impressed Pep when he took his side to Arsenal in 2011

Having made 160 appearances for Arsenal, Wilshere is not short of top level experience but has fallen down the pecking order at The Emirates due to his injury record, which led to his loan move to Bournemouth on Deadline Day in the summer window.

Since making the move, the England international has been enjoying his most successful season for years and Guardiola was on the touchline to watch his performance on Monday night when Bournemouth hosted Manchester United. However, the midfielder was forced off just before the break after jarring his ankle in a challenge with David Silva.
