Beckham for Hammers
Thursday, 29/07/2010
David Beckham is allegedly considering a move to West Ham in a few months time.
Just paper talk? Pie in the sky by the Hammers’ new owners? To be frank… there’s probably more fact than fiction in the story.
Becks has never made any secret of the fact he would love a Premier League return. He even trained with Arsenal for a while.
He’s an East End born and bred boy. He still has Beckingham Palace just a few miles up the M11 from Upton Park, and the Irons train not far from his home. Lovely jubbly!
LA Galaxy, where Beckham has a deal until 2012, would also have to agree to the move.
Of course he would probably still want to live his American dream during down time in England’s top-flight. But he could spend the rest of the time at his real home.
Beck knows that his stock in England is high and that at his age he might be running out of time to get back in the Premier League. AC Milan might beckon again, but West Ham might actual appeal more!
Hammers co-owner David Gold has had talks with Beckham’s people, which is always a good sign (they won’t even talk if there’s no interest).
Earlier this year David Gold said: “‘I’d love David Beckham. He has massive cult status in east London. We are the club of east London and Essex. If AC Milan didn’t want him in January, I’d love to have him.”
Hammers failed to lure old boy Joe Cole back to Upton Park just a few months ago. They might have more success with former England skipper Beckham.
Mind you…the Hammers also want Ronaldhinho!
Will Beckham return? Should he return? What do you think?
