Poppy ban is madness

Poppy ban is madness

Tuesday, 08/11/2011

England's request to wear poppy badges on their shirt this weekend must be allowed.

FIFA claim their rules ban the wearing of badges because it is in breach of their shirt legislation.

Poppycock! These rules are to outlaw religious slogans, outrageous advertising and other such promotions.

The poppy is a symbol of respect. It honours those who fought, and gave their lives, for freedom. It is not offensive.

Fulham (pictured) and all other Premier League teams carried the poppy badge on their kits last weekend. All league teams held one minute's silence before all games.

England boss Fabio Capello was seen wearing his poppy with pride - just as he had been last year.

Thankfully FIFA vice president Jim Boyce has now said that his body should treat separately all cases and judge on their merits.

A man with a sense of reason.

Meanwhile, the FA have been told they can have a minute's silence before the game against Spain this weekend.

I presume FIFA are also ok about the 500 armed forces people at the game... if not, tough!
