Scott could be great

Scott could be great

England need a new captain. They need someone who can ensure the hype can be lived up to and the true quality of the side can be fully proved at Euro 2012.

Following the axing of John Terry, former captain Rio Ferdinand was fast off the mark to say he doesn't want the job.

Wayne Rooney has had the armband before but misses the first two games of the finals through a ban.

Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Gareth Bale all have the credentials to be the leader – but Scott Parker is the man who should be given the chance.

The battling midfielder is what a true leader should be all about. He gets involved in every aspect of the game, drags his team-mates into the action and never shirks any task.

Parker has pedigree and in the latter stages of his career, now he has finally been given his chance on a regular basis, he's lifted Tottenham to new heights.

It will be incredible if he isn't in Fabio Capello's squad for Poland and the Ukraine and one of the best decisions the Italian might make during his final games in charge is to give Parker the chance to prove himself as his leader on the pitch.

England have two friendlies coming up where Parker could be given that armband and the chance to prove if he is worthy.

Parker is always in the headlines for the right reasons. Now Capello has the chance to create a new hero among the Three Lions faithful.

I think The FA should give the job to Rio Ferdinand because I think he is a natural leader and he could lead the team to great success
