Should Rafa be axed?

Should Rafa be axed?

Saturday, 16/01/2010

Liverpool are out of the FA and League Cups. Their chances of winning the Premier League are nil unless they get snookers.

European success would mean winning the Europa League – would their fans really care about that?

The pundits have their knives sharpened and are waving them around looking for the head of manager Rafa Benitez. But is that fair?

The Spaniard has delivered trophies at Anfield, including the European Cup. But silverware is in short supply and there probably won’t be any this season.

The big dream for the Anfield faithful is that first, elusive Premier League title. And Benitez hasn’t delivered on that front, despite a number of big money buys (and flops!).

Sir Alex Ferguson’s Man United were dumped out of the FA Cup by Leeds. No one called for his head.

Arsene Wenger hasn’t won anything with Arsenal since 2005. No one has called for his head.

There were a few quotes from Liverpool fans earlier this week saying his time was up. Yet during the game at Stoke the Liverpool fans chanted Rafa Benitez’s name.

The Liverpool hierarchy say his job isn’t under threat. The bookies think differently.

And of course who would come in as a replacement? Jose Mourinho? Would he fancy a crack? Or would they call on former legend Kenny Dalglish in an attempt to steady the ship?

*What do you think? Should Rafa go? Who could replace him?

I think Rafa’s done OK at Liverpool in his time there but he hasn’t been picking up the results lately. If I had the choice I would either send him now or maybe give him 1 more game and see if he can get a result and then see if he could follow up. I don’t know what Liverpool are going to do with him but I’m just going to follow this story on Shoot and see what happens
