Who does Tevez think he is?
Wednesday, 09/11/2011
Carlos Tevez has gone AWOL. Having served his ban he failed to turn up for training as expected this morning.
Evidently he's jetted off to Argentina to see his family. Maybe he had so much money stuffed in his wallet he felt he had to spend some of it on a first class plane ticket.
Ok, so he was fined two weeks wages - which could be around £500,000 if he earns as much as we are led to believe - but as he earned the same again for the rest of last month I don't think he'll be too worried about that.
That fine, for allegedly refusing to take to the pitch during Manchester City's defeat at Bayern Munich, won't exactly drain him dry of funds. In fact, it's hardly loose change for someone who is among the best paid footballers in the world.
Tevez earns more in a week than most people earn in eight years. All he is asked to do is turn up and train (not every day of course, he does get at least one off a week and a few weeks in the summer) and then turn out for 90 minutes when asked. Oh, there might also be a few occasions when he has to cope with extra time.
Yet as far as fans are concerned he is simply not doing his job. They have voted with their cash and for months haven't bought one of his replica shirts.
City boss Roberto Mancini is also, quite rightly, not amused.
The Italian has a highly skilled player in his squad, one that can make a massive difference to a team. He can win matches on his own if he decides to turn up and turn it on.
Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson didn't appear too worried when Tevez left for his bitter rivals. Now we may know why...
