The final of the 58th League Cup campaign takes place on Sunday as Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester City go head-to-head in the 2018 Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium (16:30).

The Gunners, who have not won the League Cup since defeating Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 back in 1993, are looking to avenge November’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League.

Meanwhile The Citizens, who have lifted this trophy twice (2014, 2016) in the past four campaigns, are on their way to lifting the title this term, as they boast a huge 16 point-lead at the Premier League summit.

Victory in the final will guarantee the winner the first piece of major silverware of the 2017-18 domestic season and a place in the UEFA Europa League next term.

The Carabao Cup.

So, ahead of Sunday’s final, Shoot! has put together our very own Arsenal-Manchester City combined XI…

*The combined XI follows a traditional 4-3-3 formation and includes ALL players from either squad, regardless of whether they are injured or suspended in reality*

Goalkeeper: Ederson (Manchester City)

Selected ahead of Arsenal’s Petr Cech and cup specialist David Ospina, is City’s Samba star Ederson.

The 24-year-old has kept 16 clean sheets in 34 appearances in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side so far this season, impressing following his £35m transfer from Benfica in the summer.

Right-back: Kyle Walker (Manchester City)

Fending off The Gunners’ Hector Bellerin is Kyle Walker, despite his costly error against League One side Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup on Monday night.

The 27-year-old has registered six assists in 38 games in all competitions for City this term, following his move from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth up to £53m.

Centre-back: Nicolas Otamendi (Manchester City)

Picked ahead of new mega-money signing Aymeric Laporte and centre-half partner John Stones, is City’s Nicolas Otamendi.

The Argentine has turned around his career at the Etihad Stadium since manager Pep Guardiola’s arrival, scoring five goals in 35 outings this campaign, and is now one of the first names on City’s team sheet each week.

Centre-back: Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal)

Undoubtedly Arsenal’s best defender, Laurent Koscielny is the first Gunners star named in Shoot!‘s combined XI.

The 32-year-old centre-half has netted two goals in 23 appearances in all competitions for Arsene Wenger’s men this season.

Left-back: Nacho Monreal (Arsenal)

Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling in action with Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal.

With City Benjamin Mendy on the sideline with a long-term injury, and summer signing Sead Kolasinac not quite cutting the mustard at the Emirates Stadium following his summer move, Arsenal left-back Nacho Monreal is picked on merit.

The 31-year-old has been a steady and consistent player among The Gunners squad this term, as well as pitching in with five goals in 27 games this term.

Midfielder: Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)

One of the world’s most in-form players, Kevin De Bruyne could simply not have been left out.

The 26-year-old Belgian has instrumented City’s Premier League title charge having scored 11 goals and registered 19 assists in all competitions this campaign.

Midfielder: David Silva (Manchester City)

Another hugely influential player among City’s majestic midfield is David Siva.

The 32-year-old has found the back of the net five times for Guardiola’s table-toppers this term, as well as providing 11 assists in 29 games.

Midfielder: Mesut Ozil (Arsenal)

Arsenal’s third player among our Carabao Cup final select XI is midfielder Mesut Ozil.

Having signed a lucrative new long-term contract at the Emirates earlier this year, the German gem has scored five goals and provided seven assists in 24 outings this campaign.

Right forward: Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)

On the right wing, Raheem Sterling has relished working with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad, seeing the England international develop his game massively.

The 23-year-old is enjoying his finest season to date, netting 20 goals and registering 10 assists in all competitions.

Centre forward: Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

Spearheading the attack is centre forward Sergio Aguero.

The 29-year-old is unarguably still a world-class striker, scoring 29 goals in 34 games in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side this season, and has savoured the healthy competition from Gabriel Jesus.

Left forward: Leroy Sane (Manchester City)

And finally, on the left wing is City’s Leroy Sane – the club’s eighth star in our Carabao Cup select XI.

The 22-year-old forward, like Sterling, is revelling in his finest run in front of goal, netting 11 goals and registering 14 assists this season for the Premier League champions-elect.
