3 Celtic stars who would fit into the Manchester City squad

Celtic will look to end their disappointing Champions League campaign with a victory when they visit Manchester City in their final group match of the competition.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are definitely out of the tournament having won none of their five group games, and will finish bottom of Group C regardless of Tuesday’s result.

The Bhoys have picked up two points in the competition, with draws at home to Guardiola’s City and away at Borussia Monchengladbach proof that the Scottish champions can compete on the European stage.

However, their 7-0 defeat at Barcelona and the 2-0 home loss to Monchengladbach was a reminder that they are not yet good enough to challenge consistently.

Nonetheless, Rodgers’ men go into Tuesday’s match at the Etihad having won their last eight Scottish Premiership games, a run which has seen them open up an eight-point lead at the top of the table.

However, they come up against a City side that have beaten Barcelona and Monchengladbach at home in the Champions League thus far, and they’ll be looking to get back to winning ways after their 3-1 defeat against Chelsea on Saturday.

With both sides looking to build some momentum by getting the three points on Tuesday, here are THREE Celtic players that would fit into the Man City squad…

Jozo Simunovic

Man City have struggled at the back at times so far this season, with centre-backs Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones having both had indifferent displays thus far.

And, with Vincent Kompany too injury-prone to be relied upon, City have little depth in the centre-half department.

However, Jozo Simunovic has impressed for Celtic this season though, and has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace and Newcastle United come the New Year.

The 22-year-old has performed well for Rodgers’ side this season, and has done admirably to return from a long-term injury and still perform at such a high level.

The Croatian Under-21 international almost moved to Torino in the summer but the move broke down, so it’s clear that he’s a very highly-rated defender who could go on and become a top centre-back.

Kieran Tierney

It’s defensively where City are having issues this season, most notably at full-back where Aleksandar Kolarov, Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna, and Pablo Zabaleta are all over the age of 30.

They have been linked with Celtic’s 19-year-old left-back Kieran Tierney, and his displays since breaking into the Bhoys’ first-team in 2015 has seen his stock rise incredibly in the last 18 months.

The Scottish international has a brilliant ability to get up and down the flanks throughout the 90 minutes, and his energy and dynamism would slot perfectly into Guardiola’s style at the Etihad.

Tierney was excellent against City at Celtic Park earlier in the season and, although he suffered ligament damage at the end of October and has been side-lined ever since, he is a man in demand, and Celtic may struggle to keep him north of the border come January.

Moussa Dembele

One of the hottest properties in Europe, Moussa Dembele made the move north of the border from Fulham at the start of the season, and has continued his sensational form for the Bhoys this time around.

The 20-year-old forward scored 17 goals in 46 games for Slavisa Jokanovic’s Fulham last season, with he and Ross McCormack the main reason they didn’t get relegated from the Championship, and he has already matched that total for Celtic so far in this campaign.

Impressively, Dembele has scored goals in every competition this season, including twice against City back in September and then the equaliser against Borussia Monchengladbach last month.

That goal against the Germans was from the penalty spot, but the French forward was composed and calmly slotted home under pressure, and it’s his temperament for a young player which has received praise from many quarters.

Dembele is another Celtic player who is attracting interest across Europe, and he’d certainly give many defences around the UK many problems such is his excellent movement and pace.
