3 Chelsea players who must try and impress against Sheffield United in the Premier League

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has a squad full of talent to choose from and has often struggled to fit players in this campaign.

His midfield was full of talented players at the end of the summer, which prompted the ex England international to allow Ross Barkley to join Aston Villa and Ruben Loftus-Cheek on season-long loans.

However, the Blues are on a very good run of form currently and have kept a phenomenal five clean sheets in a row.

With the Blades visiting Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, we believe Lampard may give one or two of his fringe players a chance to impress.

So who will potentially be given an opportunity to impress and, if so, which players should you be keeping an eye on..?

Here are our 3 Chelsea players to watch in Saturday’s Europa League match against Sheffield United …

3. Mateo Kovacic

With so many midfielders to choose from Kovacic has struggled for regular game time this season. However, boss Lampard was keen to keep the Croatia international in his playing squad and we believe the box-to-box midfielder will start on Saturday. The talented, tidy player will be very keen to impress his manager and hope his performance will lead to more opportunities from the start.

2. Antonio Rudiger

Unfortunately for Rudiger, Lampard seems set on his preferred centre back partnership of experienced Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma. However, Silva is being carefully managed by Lampard due to be in the latter period of his playing career, and is scarcely used more than once in a week. This gives other defenders the opportunity to impress and we believe Rudiger will start this weekend and the Germany international will be keen to put on a good showing.

1. Olivier Giroud

Now at 34-years-old, Giroud seems to have accepted his fate that he will never be a regular starter for Chelsea. Especially with the imperious Timo Werner banging in the goals ahead of him. Unfortunately for the France international, Tammy Abraham is also the preferred option for Lampard, often playing wide in the Chelsea starting line-up. But Giroud could get his chance tomorrow and he will be desperate to get on the score sheet.
