3 forwards Everton should look to sign in January

Ronald Koeman is embarking on his first season in charge at Everton, having replaced the sacked Roberto Martinez during the summer.

The Dutchman left Southampton to take up the reins at Goodison Park, and he has made a solid start in his first few months in charge.

The Toffees have won four of their first nine Premier League matches, but are currently on a five-match winless run in all competitions, which includes disappointing defeats at Bournemouth and Burnley in the league, and a home loss to Norwich in the League Cup.

Nevertheless, they did pick up a deserved 1-1 draw at leaders Manchester City a few weeks ago, and Koeman’s side sit sixth in the table, just five points off Pep Guardiola’s City at the top of the division.

In Romelu Lukaku, the Toffees have one of the most in-form strikers in the division, with his six goals helping contribute to their decent start.

However, Koeman may want to add more forwards to his squad in January in a bid to ease the pressure on Lukaku, and here are THREE he may look to bring in…

Majeed Waris

A forward who has been linked with a move to the Premier League before, Majeed Waris has not yet made the move across the border from French side Lorient.

Crystal Palace were reportedly interested in signing him this summer, but no deal was materialised for the 24-year-old, who scored 11 goals in Ligue 1 last season.

The Ghanaian international, who has netted four times in 22 appearances for his country, was scouted by Everton a few years ago while Roberto Martinez was in charge, and also attracted interest from Chelsea.

Quick, agile, and good in the air, the striker is highly-rated by a number of different parties, and it could be a deal Everton look to complete in January.

Troy Deeney

This has already been earmarked as a potential transfer for Everton in January, and it’s hardly surprising that they’d want to go after Watford’s Troy Deeney.

The Hornets striker has adapted to Premier League life brilliantly since promotion with the Hertfordshire club in 2015, and he now looks like he has been playing at the top level all his career.

The Englishman, who has so far been a touch unfortunate not to get a national team call-up, scored 15 times for Watford last season as they comfortably avoided relegation, but it was his all-round play, specifically his partnership with Odion Ighalo, which was praised by many.

Strong, powerful, and excellent at holding the ball up, Deeney would be an asset to this Everton side, and would certainly bolster Koeman’s attacking options.

Manolo Gabbiadini

Napoli’s Manolo Gabbiadini was on Everton’s radar over the summer, but the Toffees couldn’t quite get a deal done.

However, the Italian appears to have fallen down the pecking order in Naples, starting just five Serie A games this season and scoring just the one goal.

To make matters worse for the 24-year-old, he got sent off after just half an hour in Napoli’s 2-1 win at Crotone on Sunday.

As Everton tried to sign the Italian in the summer, they may consider going in for him again if his first team opportunities continue to be restricted.

There’s clearly interest in the forward, and it might be worth following up in January.
