3 forwards Tottenham should look to sign in January

Mauricio Pochettino is looking to lead Tottenham to their first Premier League title since 1961 this season, and they’ve made a good start in that pursuit.

Spurs have won five and drawn four of their first nine Premier League matches, meaning they are the only unbeaten side left in the top-flight.

Their excellent 2-0 win over Manchester City was the highlight of the first few months, but Spurs have shown in the early stages of the season that they intend to sustain a title challenge this season.

The Premier League’s fewest-conceders have also embarked on their first Champions League campaign since the 2010/11 season, and they have given themselves every chance of qualifying from Group E after picking up four points from their first three matches.

Despite their good start, Spurs have won none of their last four games in all competitions, and Pochettino may look to reinforce his squad in January so they can compete on the domestic and European stage.

Here are THREE forwards Spurs should look to sign in January…

Saido Berahino

It feels like the Saido Berahino transfer saga has been going on forever and, to be honest, it has been going on for far too long.

The Englishman came to prominence back in 2014 when his 20 goals helped West Brom to a 13th place finish in the Premier League, in a season where they had three different managers in charge at the Hawthorns.

His stock rose and clubs began to enquire about the 23-year-old’s availability, and Tottenham were one of those clubs who were hoping to sign the young forward, yet West Brom rejected any approach.

Berahino is still a Baggies player but, with everything that has happened in the last 18 months or so, surely it is in the best interests of both him and the club to move on.

He’s a talented player who would flourish in a side like Tottenham’s, so Spurs might consider a move in January for the striker.

Lucas Alario

River Plate striker has been attracting interest from the Premier League in recent times, with Tottenham the latest to express their desire to land the 23-year-old.

The Argentine, who made his debut for the national team earlier this year, has spent just over a season at River Plate, and has scored 11 goals in 19 games for the side.

His excellent form has alerted those in England and, based on Alario’s comments about his desire to play in England, he could move to the Premier League sooner rather than later.

Spurs and Liverpool are the ones leading the race, but Pochettino should make a move early or risk losing him to a Premier League rival.

Alexandre Lacazette

A player who has been on the radars of several Premier League clubs in recent seasons, Alexandre Lacazette continues to impress for French side Lyon.

Having started his senior career at Lyon seven years ago, the French international has exceeded 20 goals in each of the last three seasons, including 31 goals in the 2014/15 campaign.

And his relentless goal-scoring form keeps on going.

The 25-year-old has netted seven times in eight appearances this season, including a hat-trick in Lyon’s 3-0 win over Nancy back in August.

There was interest from Arsenal, Tottenham, and West Ham in the summer, and that interest is unlikely to subside after Lacazette’s brilliant start to the season.

It would be a real coup for Pochettino to lure him to White Hart Lane ahead of Arsenal, and it’s a deal they should look to complete in January.
