3 games that lost Bob Bradley his job at Swansea

Struggling Swansea yesterday confirmed that they had sacked manager Bob Bradley after he won just two of his 11 Premier League games in charge.

The 58-year-old left French side Le Havre to become the first American to manage in the Premier League, yet his spell in South Wales has not gone according to plan.

Bradley won only two of his 11 games in charge of Swansea, and suffered seven defeats in just under three months at the helm at the Liberty Stadium.

He won none of his opening five games in charge, but recorded a stunning 5-4 victory over Crystal Palace on November 26 to finally get that elusive win.

However, his side then suffered a 5-0 defeat at Tottenham and, although they beat Sunderland 3-0 on December 10, three successive defeats have proven to be critical for Bradley, who lost his job after their 4-1 loss at home to West Ham on Boxing Day.

Attentions have turned to who could take over at the Liberty Stadium, with the likes of Ryan Giggs, Chris Coleman, and Alan Pardew linked, yet we are going to look back at Bradley’s ill-fated reign at Swansea, and have identified THREE games that lost him his job in South Wales…

Bradley won one and drew two of his first six games in charge and, with one those losses a 3-2 defeat at Arsenal, it wasn’t a horrific start to his reign at the Liberty Stadium.

However, things took a turn for the worse when they travelled to White Hart Lane on December 3, and got thumped 5-0 by Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen both netted braces as Spurs ran riot in North London, but it was the manner of Swansea’s woeful performance that concerned many in South Wales.

Many teams will lose at Tottenham this season, but few will produce such a gutless and error-strewn display like Swansea did.

Bradley had lost four of his five away matches in charge, conceding 15 goals in the process, before a trip to the Riverside Stadium to face a Middlesbrough side who had won just one of their preceding six games.

A trip to a relegation rival gave Swansea a real chance to claw back some points on the sides above them, but they once again produced a characterless display to go down 3-0 to Aitor Karanka’s side.

Alvaro Negredo netted twice in the first half, despite the Swans making a decent start to the game, to all but seal the win, before Marten de Roon added a third just before the hour.

The result plunged Swansea deeper into the relegation mire in the final game before Christmas, meaning that they would go into their Boxing Day clash with West Ham 19th in the table.

Swansea would have identified the two post-Christmas home games against West Ham and Bournemouth as two big chances to get themselves out of the bottom three, and Bradley would have known that his future ultimately depended on those games.

As it happens, the Swansea board had seen enough after their 4-1 thumping at home by West Ham on Boxing Day.

Goals from Andre Ayew, Winston Reid, Michail Antonio, and Andy Carroll condemned Bradley to a seventh defeat in 11 games in what turned out to be his final one in the Liberty Stadium dugout.

Eight points from a possible 33, and 29 goals conceded in that time – it’s fair to say that it hasn’t worked for Bradley since his arrival in English football, and his sacking on Tuesday was hardly a surprise.
