3 Leicester players Ranieri should drop ahead their Champions League clash

Leicester City finally picked up an away point in the Premier League on Saturday, as they drew 1-1 with last season’s third place side Tottenham.

The Foxes fell behind to a Vincent Janssen penalty just before half-time, but Ahmed Musa’s second goal in as many matches secured a much-needed away point for Leicester, who had lost their previous four away league games and conceded 13 goals in the process.

However, Claudio Ranieri’s attention turns to the Champions League this week, and the Leicester boss will know that victory away at FC Copenhagen will mathematically secure the Foxes place in the last 16.

They have won three out of three in Europe and are yet to concede a goal, and victory on Wednesday would also be important for their league form, as they’d be able to concentrate fully on that if Champions League qualification was assured.

Nevertheless, Ranieri may look to rotate his side despite their battling performance at Spurs, so here are THREE players he may drop ahead of Wednesday’s game…

Marc Albrighton

Ahmed Musa’s excellent recent form could see Marc Albrighton miss out on a fourth successive Champions League appearance.

Musa, a £16.6 million signing from CSKA Moscow in the summer, took a while to adapt to the English game, but is beginning to look like the record signing Leicester fans were hoping for.

He’s scored two goals in two games for the Foxes and, although he is yet to start in Europe this season, this could be the time to get him in from the start at the expense of Albrighton.

Andy King

Perhaps a touch harsh on Andy King, who has been brilliant in recent weeks for Leicester, but Daniel Amartey’s knowledge of his former side could prove invaluable to the Foxes on Wednesday night.

The 21-year-old spent 18 months at Copenhagen prior to sealing a £5 million move to the King Power Stadium in January, and will know his former club’s strengths and weaknesses, and may even know how to exploit them on the pitch.

How often do we see former players perform excellently against their ex-team and, although Amartey didn’t get much game time against Copenhagen in the home match, the Ghanaian may be crucial to Ranieri as the Foxes look to seal a place in the last 16 of the competition.

Jamie Vardy

Ranieri has got a few decisions to make regarding his forward options for Wednesday’s match.

Islam Slimani is likely to come into the starting eleven, but Shinji Okazaki has proven to be an important player for Leicester this season, especially away from home.

Thus, it might be Jamie Vardy who makes way.

The English international has gone 11 games without scoring for club and country and, although he laid on the assist for Musa at Tottenham on Saturday, Ranieri may feel that his impact from the bench could be key on Wednesday as Leicester look to seal qualification.
